Especially in historical archeological photographs, male workers or children often stand next to the archaeological finds like an inanimate object, serving as a scale. In this photo, which we selected for the Photo of the Month Series, a woman poses with all her elegance next to an architectural piece, as an individual rather than a scale. This photograph was taken by F. von Holbach in 1910 who was working for the Ottoman Tobacco Regime and we assume that this beautiful enigmatic woman was his wife. With this photograph we would like to celebrate the International Women’s Day by paying tribute to the many female archaeologists who devoted their lives to archaeology both in front of the camera and behind the scene.
Özellikle tarihi arkeoloji fotoǧraflarında, erkek işçiler ya da çocuklar, genellikle donuk vaziyette ve sanki cansız bir obje gibi arkeolojik buluntuların yanında durarak maalesef fotoǧrafta bir insandan çok bir ölçek vazifesi görürler. Ayın Fotoǧrafı Serisi için seçtiǧimiz bu fotoǧrafta ise, mimari kalıntının yanında tüm zerafetiyle poz veren bu kadın, bir ölçekten ziyade bir birey olarak karşımızda durmakta. Osmanlı Tütün Rejisi memuru Bay Holbach tarafından çekilen ve eşi olduǧunu tahmin ettiǧimiz bu isimsiz güzel kadına ait bu fotoǧrafla, hem kamera önünde hem de kamera arkasında hayatını arkeolojiye adamış pek çok kadın arkeoloǧun nezdinde Dünya Kadınlar Gününü kutluyoruz.
