This massive wall in the monthly photo from our archive is from Alacahöyük. The sign painted on the wall confuses us. It reads “Hittite the 2nd storey”. After an entertaining discussion on whether it is the second floor of the building, the second row of walls, or the second layer of the archaeological site; we decide that the word “storey” was written instead of the layer.
This photograph is also a proof of the cooperation of the German Archaeological Institute with many institutions in Turkey. This photo taken by Manfred Korfmann is just one of the photographs selected from our archive for the upcoming exhibition on archeology in the Early Republican Period, to be opened very soon at the Yapı Kredi Museum, Beyoğlu. We look forward to the exhibition.
We also would like to announce to those who follow the photo of the month series. Last month, our library employee Banu Dogan shared the photo with our former library employee Ali Akkaya, which was highly appreciated. From now on every month one of our institute employee will choose a photograph and share a story. We look forward to these posts.
Arşivimizden ayın fotoğrafı serisi için seçtiğimiz fotoğraftaki bu masif duvar, Alacahöyük‘ten. Fotoğraftaki duvarın üzerine boya ile yapılmış tabela kafamızı karıştırıyor. Hitit 2. Kat! Binanın ikinci katı mı, duvarın ikinci sırası mı, yoksa arkeolojik alanın ikinci katmanı mı diye devam eden eğlenceli bir tartışmadan sonra; katman yerine kat yazıldığına karar veriyoruz.
Manfred Korfmann tarafından çekilmiş bu fotoğraf, aynı zamanda Alman Arkeoloji Enstitüsü’nün Türkiye’deki pek çok kurumla yaptığı işbirliğinin bir kanıtı. Yapı Kredi Müzesi‘nin çok yakında açacağı Erken Cumhuriyet Dönemi‘nde arkeoloji konulu sergi için arşivimizden seçilen fotoğraflardan sadece biri. Sergiyi heyecanla bekliyoruz.
Ayın fotoğrafı serisini takip edenler için de bir duyurumuz var. Geçen ay kütüphane çalışanımız Banu Doğan’ın eski kütüphane çalışanımız Ali Akkaya paylaşımı çok beğeni aldı. Bundan sonra bir süre her ay bir enstitü çalışanı bir fotoğraf seçip bir hikaye paylaşacak. Bu paylaşımları da heyecanla bekliyoruz!
