Modern archaeology is increasingly reliant on digital technology, from the documentation of finds and features through subsequent analyses and up to the resulting publications. This is, of course, quite wonderful, but this trend also presents archaeologists with previously unexpected challenges.
Under the title “Archaeo-Informatics: Challenges in Digital Archaeology”, the Istanbul Department of the German Archaeological Institute (DAI) and the Department of Settlement Archaeology of the Middle East Technical University (METU) organised a conference in which we aim to highlight the challenges of digital archaeology and provide a platform for discussing these issues and developing solutions.
For the inaugural meeting the focus lies on three important topics in archaeo-informatics:
Digital Documentation and Documentation Standards in Archaeology, Digital Data Analysis and Archiving, and Digital Data Publication
We would like to invite you to join us in deliberating the challenges of digital archaeology. The conference is intended as a forum for exchanging experience and information.
The Archaeo-Informatics 2022 will be held hybrid at the institute of the German Archaeological Institute Istanbul and online on ZOOM from 23-25. November 2022.
