Since the beginning of June, a small team from DAI-Istanbul – in collaboration with the Istanbul University and the Şanlıurfa Museum – has resumed fieldwork at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Göbekli Tepe, Şanlıurfa, Southeast Turkey.

The focus of our activities lies not only on archaeological excavations of several Aceramic Neolithic buildings (from c. 9.000 BC) but also on the conservation of the prehistoric ruins, including the famous monolithic T-shaped pillars, excavated in earlier years by Klaus Schmidt. Fieldwork will continue into the autumn and is already a popular attraction amongst visitors to the site.
