During the Late Chalcolithic period (ca. 4700–3200 BCE) the Mesopotamian and peri-Mesopotamian regions underwent crucial changes toward social complexity. The Late Chalcolithic ceramics from Arslantepe (Malatya) and Tepecik (Elazıg) are a good indicator of this process and they also show a complex network of local features and communalities.
