In our new category Book of the Month, we would like to introduce you to a book from our library each month. We will start with the publication “…die Reste noch eindrucksvoller gestalten” und erhalten: Erfahrungen aus 150 Jahren archäologischer Denkmalpflege in der Türkei” (Katharina Steudtner, ed., Wiesbaden 2022). The book was published in the series “Beiträge zur Geschichte der Archäologie und der Altertumswissenschaften“ of the German Archaeological Institute (DAI).

As the title suggests, the main theme of the book is the conservation and presentation of the architectural heritage of the DAI’s archaeological sites in Turkey. Various chapters deal with the beginnings of architectural research and conservation since 1890, the development of methods in the second half of the 20th century, the topic of protective shelters, and site management. The volume is enriched by contributions from the authors of various excavations, who also pay tribute to the work of their predecessors.
