Upcoming Workshop on Social Metabolism and Human-Environment Interaction

We are happy to announce the 2nd Milestone Workshop of the interdisciplinary TransPergMicro project, titled “Social Metabolism and Historical Human-Environment Interaction: The Pergamon Micro-Region and Beyond”. The workshop will take place on 10. – 11. January 2025 in Istanbul, with online participation also available.

This workshop will bring together researchers from archaeology, geography, building research, history, and related disciplines to explore the concept of social metabolism in the ancient world. Discussions will range from nutrition and production to waste disposal, emphasizing the transformative dynamics between urban and rural spaces in the Pergamon Micro-Region and their broader implications.

The program features presentations, interdisciplinary discussions, and a special roundtable on connecting ancient studies with contemporary challenges. The workshop aims to foster collaboration, critically evaluate the project’s progress, and inspire future research directions.
